3D SCANNING OF EXISTING MECHANICAL PARTS
In our field, reverse engineering refers to the digitization of an existing object – creating a digital record of its geometry and the topography of visible surfaces.
Through reverse engineering, we produce 3D CAD models (*.STEP, *.IGES, *.DWG) or 2D technical documentation, most commonly used for the production of replicas or new mechanical components.
Reverse engineering is typically conducted based on prototypes or existing parts for which no prior technical documentation exists.
REVERSE ENGINEERING PROCESS
The process of reverse engineering involves measuring a mechanical part’s geometry and topography, followed by the reconstruction of a 3D model in a STEP format. A professional 3D digitization system is used to capture the physical object, ensuring measurement accuracy up to 0.01mm. From the scan data, a precise polygon mesh is generated to accurately represent the digitized object. Further processing of this data in software packages, such as GEOMAGIC, allows us to create surface models (NURBS) or solid CAD models (STEP, IGES).
